

About Our Coffee Shop
Hala Tree Cafe is a farm-to-cup specialty coffee shop located in KaÊ»aÊ»awa on OÊ»ahu’s Windward coast. We serve 100% Kona coffee grown, processed, and roasted by our team right here in HawaiÊ»i, offering a direct connection between our farm on the big island and our cafe here on OÊ»ahu.

Situated just across the street from the ocean, Hala Tree Cafe is the only place on OÊ»ahu where you can experience 100% Kona coffee grown and roasted entirely under our care on our farm in Captain Cook. With both indoor and outdoor seating, the café is an easy stop after a hike, a comfortable place to work remotely, or a relaxed spot to meet friends while taking in the Windward-side ocean views.

Our menu features a selection of our own Kona coffees, brewed to highlight the unique character of each lot.
We also offer a small breakfast and lunch menu, including house-made baked goods and fresh open-faced sandwiches prepared to order. Whether you’re stopping in for a latte and a biscuit on your way to work, joining us for breakfast or lunch, or looking for a genuinely good cup of local coffee without the tourist gloss, we focus on coffee that is honest, expressive, and grounded in where it comes from.

Located downstairs from the café is The Coffee LAB, our dedicated space for coffee tastings, classes, and hands-on education. The LAB hosts guided tastings for visitors, as well as training sessions for baristas, home brewers, and professionals who want to deepen their understanding of Kona coffee. From beginner-friendly brewing classes to advanced roasting workshops, this is where we share what we’ve learned, and continue learning ourselves.

About Kona Coffee
Kona is one of the most recognized coffee-growing regions in the world. This narrow belt along the western slopes of Mauna Loa has produced distinctive, small-lot coffees for more than 200 years. What defines Kona today, however, goes beyond its history.

Kona remains a region shaped by hands-on farming and close community ties. Most coffee here is still grown on small farms, where producers are directly involved in cultivation, harvest, processing, and often roasting. At Hala Tree, we’re proud to continue this tradition while also helping move Kona coffee forward.

On our farm, we’ve built a tasting and roasting lab where every coffee is evaluated before release. We explore new processing styles, collaborate with coffee professionals around the world, and host training and cupping sessions that deepen the connection between producers and drinkers.

Kona is not simply a place where great coffee has always been grown. It is a region where dedicated producers are actively raising standards for quality, transparency, and traceability - and where the future of specialty coffee is being shaped in meaningful ways.
